Introduction

Printing one label per A4 sheet can waste paper when the source PDF contains a label that can safely be arranged with others. The correct layout depends on the label's actual dimensions, required quiet zones, printer margins, and the carrier's print specification.

This guide explains how to properly print 4 labels per A4 sheet, why it matters, and which tools make the process automatic.

Check Your Label Dimensions First

Before printing 4-up, you need to know your label dimensions. Use the calculator below to see how many labels fit on A4 for your specific label size:

A4 measures 210×297 mm. A 4×6-inch label is about 101.6×152.4 mm, so four full-size labels do not fit as an ordinary 2×2 grid once orientation, gutters, and printer margins are included. Rotate supported labels for a two-up layout, or use a verified smaller-label template; never crop away barcode, address, or carrier information just to make a four-up grid fit.

Common Mistakes When Printing Multiple Labels Per Page

Mistake: Not checking actual print size

After printing, measure one label with a ruler and scan a representative barcode. It must remain within the marketplace or carrier specification; this guide does not establish a universal minimum size or guarantee that every label will scan.

Mistake: Using "Fit" instead of "Actual Size"

If you set "Multiple per page" AND have "Fit" enabled, your PDF viewer first scales each page to fill A4, then tiles them — resulting in tiny labels. Set scale to "Actual Size" first, then apply multiple-per-page.

Mistake: Cutting labels with too-small margins

When cutting printed 4-up sheets, leave at least 3mm on each side. Labels cut too tight can have partial barcodes that fail scanning.
