Flipkart Seller Label Setup: First-Time Configuration (Complet...
Everything a first-time Flipkart seller needs to know about label setup: account config, label download, format requirements, and printing workflow.
Introduction
Your first Flipkart order pickup determines whether you become a profitable seller or spend your first week dealing with rejections and penalties. Most new sellers fail their first pickup because of preventable label mistakes. This guide prevents that.
We cover everything: account setup, label generation, format requirements, printing, application, and the first-order checklist that experienced sellers wish they'd had.
To prevent Flipkart Ekart pickup rejections, crop multi-order dispatch PDFs using the Flipkart Label Cropper, verify label compliance with the Flipkart Label Format Validator, and audit barcode resolution using the Print Quality Checker.
Step 1: Activate Your Seller Account for Shipping
- GST number registered and verified in Seller Hub (mandatory in India)
- Bank account verified (Flipkart payment settlement requires this)
- Pickup address set in Seller Hub → Settings → Business Details
- Pickup timings configured (when courier agents should come)
"My first week, the courier kept going to my GST registered address (my home in another city) while my stock was in my shop. 5 failed pickups before I realized I had the wrong pickup address in Seller Hub." — Flipkart seller, Jaipur
Required before first order
Verify your pickup address
The pickup address on your Flipkart account is where courier agents will come. Make sure it's the actual physical address where your stock is located — not your registered office or billing address if those are different.
Step 2: List Your First Product Correctly
Critical product listing fields for labels: Declared Weight Include your packaging weight. A 200g item in a 50g box with 10g bubble wrap = declare 300g minimum Dimensions (L×W×H) Measure the sealed, packed box — not the product alone. Volumetric weight may be higher than actual weight
Label issues often start before you even get an order. If your product listing has incorrect weight/dimensions, your label will show wrong values, causing weight discrepancy rejections.
Step 3: When Your First Order Comes In
- You\ll receive email + app notification: New Order Received, Log into Flipkart Seller Hub (sellerhub.flipkart.com), Go to Orders → To Be Packed section, Review the order: product
- quantity
- buyer address, Click Accept Order (you have 24h to accept before auto-cancellation), Pack the item while the system generates your shipping label,
The 24-hour acceptance window
New sellers often miss this: you must accept each order within 24 hours. After acceptance, Flipkart's logistics system assigns a courier and generates your shipping label. Only after acceptance can you download the label.
Step 4: Download Your Shipping Label
- Seller Hub → Orders → Ready to Ship
- Select the order (or select all for bulk)
- Click "Download Labels" button
- This downloads a PDF containing: shipping label + invoice (combined)
- For your first order, open the PDF and review it before printing
What your first label should look like Should have: • Large barcode (AWB number) • Your seller name • Buyer name + full address • Order ID • Weight declared • Courier name (Ekart/Delhivery/etc) Red flags: • No barcode or tiny barcode • "Processing" status still showing • Buyer address truncated • Wrong courier assigned
Step 5: Separate Label from Invoice
- Upload to Invoice & Label Separator for automatic separation
- Download "Shipping Labels" PDF — print on your label printer
- Download "Invoices" PDF — print on A4, place INSIDE the package
- For your first order: manually separate (label = page 1, invoice = page 2 typically)
Flipkart's download PDF bundles the shipping label (for the outside) and the invoice (for inside the package). They're on separate pages — do NOT print the combined PDF directly.
Step 6: Validate Your Label
- Use the Flipkart Label Validator to check format compliance
- Verify AWB barcode is present and readable
- Confirm buyer address is complete (not truncated)
- Check that order ID matches what you see in Seller Hub
Before printing, run a quick check to make sure the label meets Flipkart's format requirements:
Step 7: Print Your Label
- Adobe Reader: File → Print → "Actual Size" (not "Fit")
- Chrome: Print → More Settings → Scale: 100%
- Edge: Print → Scale: 100%
- Always verify scale setting before your first print
Critical: Always print at 100% scale
Every new seller makes this mistake once: opening the PDF in Chrome and clicking Print without changing settings. Chrome defaults to "Fit to page" which scales your label to fill the paper. This distorts the barcode.
Step 8: Pack and Apply Label
- Place the invoice inside the package (under the product, or in a side pocket)
- Seal the package completely before applying the label
- Find the flattest, most visible surface of the package
- Peel the label (if thermal) or cut with scissors (if A4 printed)
- Press firmly from center outward to remove air bubbles
- Do not apply over seams, edges, curves, or existing labels
- Final check: can you read the full address? Can you see the barcode clearly?
The "3-second press test" After applying, press the full label surface with your palm for 3 seconds. Then try to peel a corner — if it doesn't lift easily, adhesion is good. If it peels, the surface was oily, wet, or dusty. Clean, dry, and reapply.
Step 9: Your First Pickup
- Seller Hub → Orders → Ready to Ship → Schedule Pickup
- Select next available pickup slot (usually same day or next day)
- Confirm pickup address is correct
- Keep the package ready at that address at the slot time
- Courier agent arrives, scans the package barcode with their handheld device
- System verifies AWB number is valid and not expired
- Agent gives you a physical receipt — save this for tracking
- Package is accepted into courier\s network, You\ll see status change to "Dispatched" in Seller Hub within 1–2 hours
- Ask for the specific reason (they must provide one)
- Most common first-time rejection: expired label (took too long to print after downloading)
- Go back to Seller Hub, regenerate label, reprint
- Next pickup slot: label will be fresh

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do I get shipping labels for my first Flipkart order?
After you receive an order on Flipkart, log in to your seller dashboard. Go to the 'Orders' section, find the order, and click 'Generate Label'. Flipkart will automatically create a shipping label in PDF format. Download it and ensure you have a thermal printer or a standard inkjet/laser printer ready to print it.
-
What format are Flipkart shipping labels in, and can I use any printer?
Flipkart shipping labels are in PDF format, typically sized at 4x6 inches (10x15 cm) for thermal printers. You can use a thermal printer for best results, but a standard inkjet or laser printer works too—just set the paper size to 4x6 or A4 and cut the label to fit. Avoid resizing the label, as it may cause scanning issues.
-
How should I apply the shipping label to avoid first-order rejection?
Print the label on a self-adhesive sticker or use clear tape to attach it securely to the package. Place it on the flattest side of the box, avoiding seams, edges, or tape over the barcode. Ensure the barcode is not wrinkled, folded, or covered by any tape, as this can prevent scanning and lead to rejection.
-
What happens if my label is damaged or unreadable during pickup?
If the barcode is damaged, smudged, or unreadable, the delivery partner may reject the package at pickup. To avoid this, print a fresh label and reapply it. Always keep a spare label or print two copies—one for the package and one as backup. Also, use high-quality print settings to ensure clarity.
-
Do I need to include any additional documents with the shipping label?
Yes, for most orders, you must include the invoice or packing slip inside the package. Flipkart may also require a 'Shipping Manifest' if you're sending multiple orders. Check your dashboard for any specific instructions. The label itself is the primary external document, but internal documents help avoid disputes.
